Electoral roll

For some reason I keep having credit either declined or referred in regards to mortgage applicatons.
I have access to my credit file and only have 1 late payment in 6 years.
Only thing I can think of is that I by my own error forgot to fill in the census so ended up coming off the electoral roll for around 6 weeks do you think that this may be causing the issue?

Many thanks
Kelly

Probably - the elecotral roll is one of the main ways lenders check your identity. If you're not on it it's an immediate no from a lot of finance and credit card companies.

Your own bank may be different as you have a history with them, but I don't know how different banks view this.

Edit: Sorry, I didn't read your original post properly - are you showing on the electoral roll now?

The Census has nothing to do with the Electoral Register. If you chose not to fill it in, you could have been fined, but if you've heard nothing since 2011 you've probably got away with it. You must have returned the ER form in previous years and missed 13-14 (not a census year).
  • I haven't been on the electoral roll for years and years.

Still got a mortgage and various credit cards including asda and lloyds tsb though I am a llyods current account holder and have been for a long time.

Kelly - have you been applying for mortgages direct? or through a broker?

Are you borrowing at the limit of the likely amount based on your income?

The debts are your issue. Fewer lenders will now consider debt consolidation post MMR.
