Breaking the Court Order over holiday

  • In the greater scheme of things, does your husband really need to give his permission? My OH's Ex wife takes their daughter away each year, has done since they split up and it's not really an issue is it? We would never expect her to ask him if it was ok. The kid lives with her most of the time, what does all this angst really achieve?

I would let your husband deal with it - a stepmother putting her two penn'orth in, is rarely helpful!

But, as the lad is 15, I cannot see a problem anyway.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

Now the child is 15 I would be questioning if there is any need for a court order at all? It seems to me that they can become more of a hindrance than a benefit to the child. Some parents get so fixated on the details and use every point to squabble and fight about that they forget who the order is supposed to benefit.

At 15 I would expect your stepson to be able to make some decisions for himself. Certainly he should be the person who is mentioning to dad that he is going on holiday, he should also have a say in when contact happens and for how long. He is fast approaching adulthood and he needs to feel he has some say in his own life.

I would hate to have every detail of my life being written in stone to be picked over and argued about between my parents. I'm sure he's not a fan of it either.

If this were my family, I would get everyone together, call a truce and work out between us what is going to work for contact and holidays. Let your son organise the schedule as much as possible. If holidays clash, he has to choose where he goes. Contact would work the same, let him choose when to visit.

Can you be sure SS hasn't told his mum that he has told you?

To me, unless you have grounds to object, like concerns for his welfare whilst away, then to do so would be utterly pathetic.
