1st MOT test early.
Options
I'm well aware that you can have an MOT done a month ahead of the expiry date on your current MOT but ......
what if the car is coming up to be 3 year old son has no current MOT but will need one from 1st August?
Can I have the car's first MOT done early -sometime during 2nd week of July probably - and the MOT expire on 31st July rather than 12 months from the test date?

You can get it MOT'd a month before its due - even if it is its first MOT.
The expiry then will be 13 months time0 -
Yes, no problem, as long as you are within a month of the date of first registration the extra time is added on.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

You can have it done whenever you like.
I think you're getting confused with the month ahead of expiry, that is only to preserve the anniversary of the previous MOT, not that you're not allowed to get it done sooner. ie. If your MOT was due 1st July 2014 and you had it done 2nd June your anniversary for the next test would remain at 1st July 2015. If your test was due 1st July 2014 but you had it done on 31st May your next anniversary would move to 31st May so you would lose a month.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
Thanks everyone - all clear now.
That's good as I'm off on holiday last week of July and 1st week of August and want all the MOT nonsense out of the way before rather than after the hols.0 -
When I last took a car early for its 1st MoT, as there was no previous MoT on the system I had to take the V5 with me. You can take it no sooner than 28 days before the original date of registration (day/month) and the expiry date is then 1 year on from the date of registration.0

That used to be the case, now the date of registration comes up on The Computer, and it is all automatic.
Won't hurt to take the V5 though in case, and to tell the tester you want the extra days in case of some glitch in The System.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
