Why won't HMRC send me a P810 form?

in Cutting tax
Last year I got a letter from HMRC informing me that I don't need to do self-assessment tax returns anymore. Yippee! (probably because I never owed them anything).
The tax year just gone I donated a significant amount of money to charity, via gift aid, and since I am a high rate tax payer, I want to reclaim the difference between basic rate and high rate.
I phoned them up 3 months ago for a P810 form, was promised one in the post, but nothing came, phoned 2 weeks ago and so far still nothing.
Both advisors initially thought the form could be downloaded from their site, but then conceded it could not after checking (why can't it?).
Is it a conspiracy to make it hard to reclaim tax?!

Whats a significant amount ?
Although they still exist, I would be surprised if the system generates one anyway, P810's haven't been worked for years
Call them again, tell them the amounts, if they can accept the details by phone, they will, if they too are big for business by telephone and they need to re open the SA record they will do.
Worse case scenario is that you send in a letter with the info.
They will accept that in the absence of a P810He's not an accountant - he's a charlatan0 -

I don't think a P810 will get you any refund of tax - it just appears to be a non-statutory review form to remind those that don't fill in a SA that you still have to declare any untaxed income or that perhaps you are paying too much tax

(The fact that link in now archived raises the question if they even still use this)
Why don't you just sign up and complete a SA online?0 -
Am I missing something here, why not just complete an R40 which you can download?
This has worked fine in similar situations for me.0 -

You did well as the form R40 is specifically for those who wish to claim tax overpaid on savings and investments income because one does not pay tax or is a 10% taxpayer. The op is a higher rate taxpayer and will not be claiming tax deducted on this income.
R40 - Claim for repayment of tax deducted from savings and investmentsThere are 10 types of people in the world - those who understand binary and those who do not. :doh:0
