Is switching from electric to gas heating fund-able by Green Deal?

I've recently purchased a small 2-bed flat which uses electric storage heaters (and very old ones at that). Scottish Gas Network has told us that there seems to be already a gas supply in the flat, but just needs to be turned on. I am keen to replace the electric heaters with gas central heating (combi boiler), and have been told about Green Deal - not sure if anyone knows whether such a replacement (rather than upgrade) is fund-able by them? I am under the impression that they only fund recommendations they provide from the home assessment.
I am very much on the fence about Green Deal - I have actually saved up enough to cover the up-front costs of the replacement (have been given some quotes from non-Green Deal providers), but I just fancy having someone else pay for the heating replacement up-front while I use my saving to dec out my new pad instead :P ! I am thinking my rationale is probably a bit flawed though as Green Deal is in effect a loan, and there's no guarantee that it will save me money in the long run......is there anyone who has used Green Deal and what is your experience?
I live in Scotland by the way - I notice that Green Deal in Scotland seems to be slightly different from down south!
Thanks!
