When a gull got stuck on a pond island, not too far from us, the Fire Brigade were happy to try and help....but, couldn't quite manage it......

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

They would probably use it as a training exercise.

    Sorry, I couldnt resist.
Capn. Flack & the insurmountable Trumpton Fire Brigade have been neglected in recent years.

We had a young gull fall down our chimney, which is boarded up. It was way to big to get out on it's own. We asked the council for help who said it's the landlord's responsibility, and that landlords and owners in our area know to have their chimneys topped so that smoke can get out but rats, mice and birds can't get in. The council carry out this service and charge around £120, they told me.

We didn't just take their word for it, but asked around at our neighbours, and sure enough they were right. I could have just looked across the road where most of the chimneys are capped.

We opened the board (did I say "we"? Ooops, I was terrified! It made such a racket. Really set my nerves on edge.).... What I meant to say was, calm as a cucumber, my OH opened the board at the opening to the chimney, put a towel around the bird and carried it downstairs. He put it in a nearby playing fields, said it's mum and dad were circling around him screaming away, but it was too young to fly. So probably ended up as dinner for one of the local foxes.
