If my insurance policy had restricted mileage it would feature in the policy documents. Since there is no mention of how many miles I do a year then it doesn't factor in. My contract with the insurance company doesn't make any mention of mileage so it cannot be part of the policy.

Apart from the entry on line that you made.

Is that true? I thought failure to disclose a material fact, or a change of fact from what you originally declared, could be used to reject a claim?

That may not be the same for everyone. When I got a quote I answered '20,000' to the question about mileage. My policy booklet doesn't mention mileage but the schedule shows 'Mileage not exceeding 20,000'.

Okay. I'm going to admit I was wrong. I checked with the insurance company and they said it was a condition of the policy but that they could not understand why it was not in the documents.

There. I've not seen many instances of people fessing up to being wrong on the forum, but there we are. You were all right. Happy now?

Onlu if it's a 'qualifying misrepresentation' in terms of the Consumer Insurance (Disclosure and Representations) Act 2012.

Thanks for coming back. I'm not 'happy' but am glad you have your insurance sorted, as they will use any excuse to place difficulties in claims when you need them.

Mine has something along the lines of an estimate of 60k a year. 22 months in, the car has 117k, and won't be moving for the next 6 weeks, so I'd say that's a fairly good estimate of the mileage the car will do.

As long as the guess is reasonable enough, there should be no need to worry (I'd say 'reasonable' is within 10%, but others may disagree)

It's pretty much academic really. I did less than a thousand miles last year, but thought that allowing for up to 2k would give me the ability to do a couple of longer trips if the opportunity came up.

I cycle almost everywhere now and only really do the odd weekend trip, and not very far then.

One of my bikes is on a limited mileage policy but has no odometer, so I'm not sure how that works for them.
