Ring stuck on table lamp

I had to take off the shade on a table lamp Now when trying to put it back the screw ring holding it in place is stuck Can anyone give me any advice on how I can get it off Wondering if I should put some sort of grease on it
Advice would be appreciated

Many thanks

Sue

You could try squirting a bit of WD40 into it - use the straw to aim it as near to the thread as you can get.

Once you've got it off, give it a good clean and a wipe over to try and prevent the same thing happening again in the future.

Thank you for that suggestion I wondered about WD40 but was scared as the lamp shade is ivory silk I will cover up the lamp shade to protect it and see how it goes I have got WD40 will let you know if it works I am not sure if it is off the thread or not
    Thanks again

Yes, make sure you cover up the shade - WD40 will stain it if it gets on it. But if you're careful and use the straw to aim it, you should be OK. You won't need much - just a tiny little squirt and let it soak for a minute or so.

And make sure the lamp is unplugged from the mains socket, I mean unplugged, not switched off

Thank you both so much My SIL came along last night and I asked him to look at it for me He managed to sort it out without resorting to using the WD40 Thanks for advising me as to unplugging the lamp I just would not have thought of this
Again as ever many thanks to all of you on these board who always give such excellent advice
