Peugeot 107 / Fiat 500 Automatic

My friend has an automatic 107 which has a horrible gearbox. It is very jerky when you start off, hesitating and then suddenly moving, which makes parking especially alarming. Once moving there is a horrible lag before accelerating or when changing gears.

She is thinking of changing to a Fiat 500 - is the auto box on this any better? I've driven a manual version which I liked very much but she will only consider automatics.

The 500 has a similar gearbox to the 107 from what i have read and it is not knoen for being smooth.

The Fiesta had a very smooth autobox prior to going over to Powershift boxes.

I have done a fair few miles in Galaxy with a Powershift box and it was smooth with much better fuel economy than with the old traditional torque convertor box.

I would advice a decent test drive of the 500.

It may be found to be as jerky as the 107.

Have a search online for reviews of 500s or even Alfa Romeos with the automated manual gearbox.

It is certainly possible that a software upgrade may improve the 107.

But they were never really that smooth even when new.
