O/S Daily Thread Tuesday 1st July

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Good morning everyone :)

Still full of cold and self pity so am doing up with vitamin C and honey and hot lemon with a paracetamol or 2 thrown in!

Have order coming from Ocado tonight, usually way too expensive but with a £20 voucher off a £40 shop and lots of special offers, it was too good to resist. Ended up spending most of it on salmon fillet which worked out at 63p per portion and will be sliced up and filling our freezer tonight.

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for anyone who needs or wants them. Keep well and safe and have a super day

Morning all :) I have been awake for ages thanks to my disrupted sleep patterns and Laddo having night terrors, so after sorting him out I couldn't drift back off.

I didn't manage to get done everything I wanted to yesterday but managed to get a few of the tasks sorted. It's shopping day today so that will probably be the only thing on my list apart from making fried chicken. They were going to have it yesterday but I ran out of steam so that's tonight's dinner for them and I will have a chicken and bacon salad, I think :)

I have been looking at meal planning so that I have a list before going shopping as I'm going to try sticking to a budget but it's not so easy trying to decide what everyone will eat for the next week. Friday, Saturday and Sunday are easy a we do the same every week, it's just sorting the other four days out :o I will have a think about it before I go.

Have a great day all :)

    Morning :hello:

There's no-one on today's birthday list but quite a few need cake I think. So I whipped this up this morning :D :bdaycake:

sistercas For some reason I thought you were on holiday  Hope you feel better soon xx

Oooh I love lists! I have a to-do notework for work with two lists on the go – long term ongoing things and immediates. Then I have my diary which is split into house and garden. Love seeing things crossed off at the end of the day :D Sometimes, things get left but I add them to the top of tomorrow's list so nothing gets left for too long.

Very proud of master tru, he was turning work away because he's so busy so he now has a labourer :T It's on a self-employed basis at the moment, he labours for a couple of others too. But he wants to be a carpenter and master tru wants to take him on as an apprentice. He's not in a position to do that at the moment but is hoping it'll happen next year. J will be 18 by then, not sure of all the rules and age limits so he'll have to do some research.

My new exercises are challenging – hurray! It actually feels like my leg has had a good workout, it hurts but feels amazing at the same time :D If I ever get this type of problem again I won't go to the doc, I'll head straight for a sports physio.

I've repotted the chamomile and anchored down the strawberry runners. I've finished my ladybird :T but can't get a very good photo on my phone – my camera isn't working at the moment.

    Morning all,

Bit cooler here atm but it makes a nice change. DD and I are off to work today, both at the same place which doesn't happen often and it saves a load of running around when it does !

Dinner tonight will be something with the leftover chicken from Sun / Mon not sure what yet but will think of something.

Vintage clothing place was fab yesterday dd got a load of tops (maybe 7 ? ) for £15 a quick wash and they are like new. We also had a quick look in Dunelm and I saw some nice curtains for my stairs will just have to save the money now !

    Have good days all xx

Good Morning everyone, three good warm days forecast ahead at the moment .Well wishes to all who are feeling poorly especially when the weather is so nice.I feel I can cope with a cold in the winter but a summer one is horrible.

Today I have to have my pre-op thing at the hospital for my next op. So that will take up a good two hours ,too-ing and fro-ing from different depts no doubt.

Then I see my consultant on 23rd and he will tell me when the next op is.The layer that he positioned on my right chest has settled down nicely so the next op. actually puts my new breast in :):):)
Once that's in and settled then the last op. is the one where a bit is removed from my left existing breast, and the breast is then lined up to match the new one .So by Christmas hopefully I will look more or less as I did before the mastectomy in 2007 :):):) and I will be able to wear and buy ordinary clothes that not only fit but look good .No more big baggy t shirts or jumpers and definitely no more prosthetics.

Well chums a brand new shiny month ahead,I always like the 1st of a new month as its a bit like a mini New Year :) so many possibilites ahead and new challenges.I hope to try and get my food mountain down a bit and spend as least as possible as next month its holiday time :j

Right time for coffee and a shower
have a good day everyone what ever you are doing
    Cheers JackieO xxx

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

DH up and gone to work early, but not stupid early.

Now light, blue sky but lots of wispy clouds, sun will break through at some point I think. Its quite warm already too. Washing on the line. Greenhouse/plants watered.

Dinner last night was the chicken that we took away at the weekend but didn’t use, so we had that in a creamy mushroom sauce, with new potatoes, carrots, peas, green beans and broccolli. Tonight we’ll be having pork chops, pots, veg and gravy. Have noticed that all the meat I bought is very close to the “use by” dates – so will be watching that much more closely in future.

Yesterday work was busy in the morning then did ease off in the afternoon but was still steady – it’s my day to work at the other office today – so I’m expecting the telephones to be busy – they were yesterday.

Had text message yesterday to say that a final decision is in the process of being made for 2 more of my ppi claims – a definite decision will be made by 27 July – hoping I can get it all brought to a conclusion shortly.

    Keep safe and well x

    Hi everyone,

I hope you had a good sleep Hester, and a less tiring day.

I'm off on an embroidery course this morning, I've got one for the next 4 Tuesdays so I'm looking forward to that. I've also started an online university course on something called Futurelearn. The courses are free so I thought I'd give it a whirl. I'm doing England in the time of Richard III.

Other than that I shall be doing a bit of housework and trying to finish the quilting on the Babar baby quilt I've made.

    Have a good day all.

    Good morning everyone :j

Pinch punch and all that to you all and I'm running away so you can't get me back!

It's a beautiful sunny day here today so my bestie is coming to get me out of the house and go out for a drive somewhere. I'm hoping we will go near a diy store so I can get some paint for our dining room. I ordered some through B and Q but it was out of stock. I'm hoping I have more luck in-store.

JackieO - I really hope your appointment goes well today. Your operation sounds quite gruelling but it will be worth it. I have seen some amazing reconstructions online and on the tv. It's amazing what can be done now!

I'm cooking kippers for my breakfast so I will suffer with indigestion later. I'm stocked up on rennies though and I love fish so it will be fine. Hubby and the kids want fish and chips for tea and I will have a jacket potato and tuna. I may be eating out today so I will have to find a suitable slimming world type meal.

Anyway, kippers are done so I will love you and leave you. Take care xxx
  • Morning everyone, we were awake very early again today, just after 4 this morning I think we must have either someone starting a car and going off early or a loud plane flying over and with the light levels at the moment that's enough to bring us to the surface. It makes for a long day and we're tired by 10 at night, makes for weary evenings.

NMLC I've noticed 'use by' dates getting shorter and shorter on lots of things, particularly meat in all the supermarkets lately and I wonder if they are keeping lower stock levels before putting them out for sale in the shops to keep costs down and reduce the amount of 'Reduced to Clear' produce that they generate? I certainly don't see as many reductions these days as there used to be but that might just be because more people are taking advantage of them.

Nice day again here, not so warm yet but forecast to become so later in the day. I'm off on the bus for a couple of bits and pieces in town for He Who Knows. The bus company is yet again combining services here and reducing routes that can be made from the village. We used to have 3 busses an hour but now we have 1 and that is being combined with another route into the city so we'll have to get used to the new numbers and routes from today,I guess we're lucky to have any busses at all, but they keep changing things usually just as you're used to the previous one, oh well, that's life I suppose!!!

Hope everyone has a good day and enjoys the sunshine, Lyn xxx.

    Hi all

Lovely sunshine here, so I rounded up as much washing as I could find, and changed the kitchen and bathroom hand towels to make up a full load, and that's now out on the whirligig.:o

Doglets have been walked and fed; it's so much easier doing Walkies with Mr LW; bless him, he's getting up 30 minutes early to help me do their morning outing.:A

I've got a bag of their food out of the freezer to defrost in the fridge, for tomorrow's brekkie; they are having tinned food at night. They brought a real selection of stuff with them; frozen bags of home-cooked stuff, frozen chicken drumsticks (cue an emergency round of Freezer Tetris the first day they were here) and also some tins. There was just the right amount in total for their stay, so I worked out a meal plan for them so that they have the different types of meal in rotation. It seems to work well.:o They'll be going home on Saturday morning; then I have a new guest - actually a new client for the franchise - coming on Monday for a two-night "trial stay" prior to her three-week holiday in August.

Have a good day all - and good luck at the horse-piddle JackieO. :o
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)
