Skint Spice - I assumed that about the delivery address too, and surely if the details didn't match up, then the payment should have been declined!!

Unfortunately not all companies insist on delivery address being the registered cardholders address !!!! I found this out when someone used my Nationwide CC. They bought 2 mobile totally over £600. Luckily Nationwide spotted it and stopped all transactions. When I spoke to the 2 mobile phone co's involved neither had a problem sending out to addresses other than registered cardholders addresses - pretty scarey.
When I spoke to the fraud team at Nationwide they talked about computer programmes that can keep generating numbers until they find a match ???
To this day I still don't know exactly how they managed to use my cc account, but they did!!!!0 -
Paypal is very insecure, you hear about cases of fraud using paypal details all the time. I wouldn't have any card details saved in there or anything like that.
Glad to hear they're refunding it fairly quickly!
My bank card details are not on Paypal but my direct debit details are - daft question but is this a higher or lower risk do you think?0 -

I'm not sure if it's higher or lower, I'd suspect it's harder to use those than card details. But still risky!
I shut down my paypal account, I wasn't using it and I don't like their rather sloppy approach to security. But if I was going to have an account I'd set up a special account for it that wasn't linked to any of my main accounts. Just be really vigilant and watch for any suspect transactions. If you get onto them straightaway it's easier for the banks to stop them.0 -
Thanks for that I check my account every day, I would get rid of paypal but I sell a lot and its convenient and also several of my surveys pay in Paypal.
Card wise on line we use webcard through cahoot so we are pretty secure there but it does make you stop and think it is a dishonest world out there.0 -
Was that the TX Max one? They reckoned at the time that they were really old cards that mostly would have been out of date. Have to say at the time I thought it was a rather laid back attitude of theres.
Here's the latest on the TK Max connection.
The US Secret Service have caught 4 criminals, the haul around £37 Million (but this is crooks using card details and NOT cloning) and they can tie this in to the TK Max breach.
Story here;
The recent and ongoing UK garage scams, where cards are cloned and PINs captured, the most recent estimate is a £30 Million haul by the crooks.
Shame lots of this is easy to deter: Click here.0 -
:mad: when it happened to me a few weeks ago I notified the bank who now tell me that they cant refund the money (after 6wks) as pin used. the card is with me & pin not written anywhere. wont tell me at which branch of a national chain the purchase made. the local branch confirm its not me & say a few people complained that it happened to them on the same day.
the only good news - I've got another account elsewhere0
