I've been Frauded!

... and that's a technical term btw! lol

I don't know how but someone has managed to buy some items from mangoshop.com using my Visa Debit Card .... apparently the transaction was made in Barcelona 2 days ago!

Luckily they only used £113 (well so far, the card has been cancelled now so any other transactions awaiting authorisation will be cancelled)!

My card has been with me the whole time ..... so, how do they do it??

Its called card cloning. But more importantly are your bank going to refund the money?

wouldn't it be lovely to be in Barcelona buying things from Mango??? what did the card provider say when you cancelled? has it maybe been cloned?
surely buying from an internet shop meant giving a delivery address though?

    Hi giddykipper.
That happened to me earlier this year - only in my case the money was spent in Malaysia. My card was probably 'cloned' at a local petrol station as there were several hundred cases at the time.

Anyway, my bank (Alliance & Leicester) refunded it very quickly - hope yours does the same.

Mine was 'frauded' in Singapore dollars! Apparantly had something to do with Paypal. Got it all back from the credit card company though it took some weeks.
  • It could be from the scam that happened a few months ago where over 50 million card details were stolen! Can't remember where or from who though sorry!

The bank have said that as it so clearly is fraud, I should get my money back within 24-48 hrs (thank God).

I have no idea where it could have been cloned, I dont really use it much .....(I tend to deal in cash these days so I can 'see' what I'm spending) ..... although I have bought a few things via paypal just recently!!

Skint Spice - I assumed that about the delivery address too, and surely if the details didn't match up, then the payment should have been declined!!

Was that the TX Max one? They reckoned at the time that they were really old cards that mostly would have been out of date. Have to say at the time I thought it was a rather laid back attitude of theres.

I'm very lucky that this has never happened to my, but while it's not very DFW I have got card cover which covers my up to £100,000 and give me cash advances if they are stolen/lost overseas. (although piece of mind is priceless)

Hopefully I'll never need it. But I am so pleased that the bank are being helpful, really makes you want to deal in cash only doesn't it.

Paypal is very insecure, you hear about cases of fraud using paypal details all the time. I wouldn't have any card details saved in there or anything like that.

Glad to hear they're refunding it fairly quickly!
