Scratch on returned hire car

Cancel your credit card asap ('I lost it, etc') and get another one, then tell them to get stuffed.

OP....I would not even bother with a letter, just have no further contact with them.

Unnecessary stress. i feel for the OP. You have a good case to argue further but i just hope they dont stress you further.
It is for this reason that i am forced to take this their silly insurance that covers all this damage. Cost extra and not fair. I think it should be standard and inclusive for all minor scratches.
For starters, if the marks were so bad and it pains them so much, how come they dont repair it instantly.I have been given cars with marks time and time again.
It seems this a way of extra profit for them
