British Gas 542 replacement for Worcester 35CDi

Hello there,
I have just had a British Gas quote to replace a 15 year old Worcester 35DCDi combi boiler with a BG 542. They have offered me £400 scrappage on the old boiler and 1£ for every world cup goal scored (about £140 to date ) if I order before 13th July. They have also offered one year of complementary Homecare.

Any advice anyone can give me on whether this is a fair quote would be wonderful - thank you in advance!

The existing boiler flue exhausts 280 mm below the eaves of the garage- and they are vented. I have been told that this means a new flue has to be constructed exhausting through the roof, or the boiler needs to be dropped to a silly height to allow the flue to comply with the 300 mm demanded by building regs.

In two of our rooms the radiators are tiny and the rooms are always cold. The quote includes two larger replacement rads.

We als do not have a central control in the house - only thermostats on the radiators. The quote includes a Hive thermostat.

Its British gas so its going to be the highest price around.
You would also get a minimum of 5 year manufacturers warranty on the boiler from anyone else.
  • BG = Rip off.

You could easily knock a couple of grand or more off that price.

Find local gas safe registered installers. If you want Worcester Bosch (I think they are great too), then look on the WB website for an accredited installer.

Guessing they didn't tell you about the WB guarantees? Get it through an accredited installer and that is 8 years parts and labour. With a guarantee like that you don't need their homecare products.
