We have a problem with intruders wandering around our garden - late at night.
The garden gate tends to have been opened overnight
I was wondering whether a IR camera would operate THROUGH a double glazed window ?
movement detector needed
We have a window directly opposite the gate..

This would be much simpler than wiring up an external camera
Any alternative suggestions ?

All CCTV cameras need IR LEDs on for night vision and putting the camera behind a window with those LEDs on is bad news - you'll just get a white out. Even in the daytime there will be reflections. You might get away with external IR illumination and a camera inside with no LEDS or the option to turn them off.

The money saving answer is to nail the gate shut :)

Have you seen human intruders and, if so, have you reported that to the Police?

It could be that the gate lock is easily opened under a soft impact and it is foxes or other animals.

What's in your garden to attract them in through a closed gate?

And what benefit will it be to you if you can watch them after the event?

A padlock on the gate would be far cheaper.

Not as cheap as nails though (post #2) :)
