It says... on that screen.... 842p (which is the price between the buy and sell)0

Just over 840p per share.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.0 -
I also wondered if it was a trick question, but I guess you need to know they are priced in pence.
Not even the so called professionals always get this right!

What shares exactly does he hold? Can you give the exact company name shown on the share certificates?
Your link gives the price of National Grid shares. It's possible that your uncle holds a mixture of BG, Centrica and Lattice shares.
See the link below for the company history since privatisation

About 842p per share according to your own link. Is there anything to suggest it's wrong?
Potentially if he has held the shares for years and years, the type and number of shares mentioned in his share certificate are not quite the same as the current version whose price you can look up, if he never got a replacement cert. For example BG plc split into BG and Centrica, then BG split again into BG and Lattice which became National Grid Transco etc. So make sure that what you are looking up is what he actually has. If in doubt the company registrar would help you.
But if you are just looking at that link and asking what is one share priced at, it is about 842p (see where it says price, or bid price?). Of course, this might have changed before you read the replies.0 -
Thanks for the reply.
At the minute he cant find his share certificate ( still looking)
but a letter he recived not long ago was from Capita re national grid share register.
Also the shares are around £8.42 is that right?:T0 -
If he still has his original share certificate, then it might not be valid. The link Vortigern posted shows there have been several corporate actions, so he'll likely have been sent new share certificates at some point.
I'm a bit confused by your original question, because it sounds like you already knew the answer! Were you really wanting to know what one British Gas share from 1986 would have turned into?0 -
If he's received a letter from Capita then you may want to search out the threads about them.
You can trace the shares yourself but if you can find the certificates it will make it much easier.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
