lemons cut up boiling water poured over them, leave for a couple of hours
add a couple of teaspoons of honey per glass warmed in microwave
as good as any cough mixture youll buy
unless its a chest infection then youll need anti biotics
that honey lemon helped me out no end when I had the pneumonia and soothed the savage throat .
;D0 -
and yes I hate to say it but a gargle with some white vinegar diluted 50/50 in warm water is great for a sore throat

Why am I not surprised by this cathy ??? ???
Think I'll try the lemon and honey drink ... a lot more appealing ... (especially with gin ;D).Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0 -
Sorry to say it but my Grandma used to agree with Cathy.
She used to heat vinegar, butter and sugar on a spoon and sip it.
She used to swear by it though. When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt0 -
Yuk

have you got a facial sauna, seems to help me a lot as i get bronchites quite alot, also my daughters who both suffer with asthma tend to go through a bout of broncholites at this time a year, they are to little to use the sauna for the risk of scalds so i put the sauna out of reach take the face bit off and add a few drops of eucalyptes oil to the water and leave it on steam.

Actually this is even better with a good dark rum in place of the gin (imho) - and quite effective too.

I swear by magic tea:
Thumb sized lump of fresh ginger, chopped small
crushed garlic clove
one lemon, skin left on, sliced
Put in saucepan with two mugs of water. Bring to boil then simmer for 20 mins. Strain into mug then add LOTS of honey to taste and drown out the garlic.
Any food with onions, garlic, chilli or ginger is good for chest infections. Lemon gives some vitamin C and honey is naturally antiseptic.
If your bronchitis starts producing thick yellow, brown or green phlegm then you have a bacterial infection and you need to see the doctor.
I take supplements of echinacea, zinc, garlic and vitamin C for colds to stop them turning into bronchitis. Before I tried this, I regularly got bronchitis every winter. I know that supplements are controversial so use your own judgment.0 -
Thanks filigree.
I'm actually feeling a lot better now (after trying out some of the suggestions above!). As I get bronchitis every year though, I'll print off this thread for future use.
