Default after 4 years?

Hello all. I have checked my Experian report again today and notice that Motormile finance have added 4 defaults to my file, right after I spoke to them to pay off a debt and they said I still had other accounts with them. I said that I would need to look at these and figure out what I could pay as I wasn't aware of them (although I am not disputing them)
So they've added these defaults to my file last month right after I spoke to them. They were not on previous report. The default date is from 2010 so they are adding them on four years after I originally defaulted and have obviously only done so when I contacted them to pay a debt off.
Could someone enlighten me please - were there not guidelines as to when a dca could add defaults to a credit file? It's now made my file look worse when I've been working the last few months to improve everything.
Thank you

Its not uncommon for a default to appear on your file retrospectively (e.g. if the debt collector didn't have a correct address link for it to appear before then).
However the default date should be dated when the account did actually default, and if it is more than 6years since the default obviously should not appear at all.
If they have done so then you need to write to them to complain.
Not sure if you mean they have dated the defaults 2014 when they should be 2010 or if they have dated then 2010 when they should be 2006.
If its it the latter and your mention you said would 'figure out what you could pay' - is there any chance that these debts are statute barred?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Thanks for that. The defaults are dated 2010 which would be right, I just wondered why it took them from 2010 until now to add them to my credit file, and then only after I had spoken to them. Ive only just moved so was at the address I defaulted on for 3 years after! I thought I had read somewhere that defaults had to be added to a credit file in a timely manner or similar.0

I also did not get any notice that the defaults were going to be added at that time.0

Nothing you can do if the defaults are correctly dated.
They can add it when they find your current address for example, if they didn't have it previously.
You may be able to negotiate, especially as they fall off fairly soon. Ask them, in writing, to remove them if you pay.:beer:0
