Hi - which major energy firms accept AMEX?

Try asking "Do you take PayPal?" instead. My default payment method for PayPal is now my Amex card. No extra charges as far as I can see.
If you are after air miles, E.On gives TESCO Clubcard points.
My Clubcard auto-tips into my Virgin Atlantic Flying Club to become air miles.0 -
Ahhh what a very cool trick!0

It's just annoying they haven't opened up to accepting AMEX a little more.
I've got a pretty big job to replace an old boiler system and British Gas have quoted roughly £5k.
They do not accept AMEX but I intend to use the quote to argue the price down with the numerous local suppliers who do accept it.
Retailers seem to have got on board in the main, we're just down to utility and bills now. Sky don't accept but Virgin do, mobile phone companies will accept. Even some councils let you pay council tax on.
Not very moneysaving but I'm actually accepting of the fact I might have to pay a few extra quid to use it - I don't really mind myself - I just want my BA 2-4-1 voucher.
In fact the sooner I get there the sooner I can downgrade the BA card and get some refund of the £150 annual fee.0 -
I used to work at Amex some eons ago, and retailer acceptance (or reluctance) was a big issue even then..
their higher processing fee seemed to be sticking point, and most outlets may have been tied to their banks' visa/mastercard systems.
working later as shop staff, I didn't really care what brand the card was, so long as it got approved!Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0 -

Why do you ask?
It's common knowledge that generally the best priced tariffs are those where the customer pays monthly by Direct Debit.
Sticking to the main suppliers probably isn't the best moneysaving solution for most either, as the smaller suppliers do often come out cheaper.

£5k from British Gas for a replacement boiler? That's actually quite cheap for them.
But again, British Gas is notoriously expensive. Expect to get the same for sub £2k from a wide range of local GSR engineers
(Perhaps even less for cash)

The retailer has to price their merchandise to cover the commission/processing fee, so you are paying for it anyway.
The big puzzle is Costco, they traditionally only took debit cards, which has no fee of course, but now they take AMEX!? And yet not VISA or MasterCard? My guess is they are getting a special rate from Amex, so they don't have to raise their prices by 5%.
I would find it a betrayal to ask me to pay £60 a year for Executive Membership, only to pay high street prices pre-loaded with credit card processing fees.0
