I have a quick question if anyone can help?
I want to start a new Santander account as a secondary account to my main one.
If I fill in all the online forms etc...will the account be started on that day, or will I have to wait a few days for it to be approved?
I want the anniversay date to be on a certain day of the month.

It's one sole account per person these days. Any "secondary" account will have to be a joint account.

Sorry. You threw me when you said "I want to start a new Santander account as a secondary account to my main one." ;)

Probably best to ask Santander, but providing they don't need sight of any additional ID I'd guess within a day or two of your application...maybe even same day?

Assuming you're going for a 1-2-3 account(?), one other option would be to open a standard account with them and then upgrade to 1-2-3 on your chosen date next month, ie December. When I upgraded earlier this year my statement (monthiversary) date was changed to the date I made the upgrade call.

    Thanks Yorkshire Boy.
You've just made me realise that my ISA is with Santander. So I can probaly just login in and get the account straight away as I'm already a customer?

I opened one recently on line as a brand new customer. Confirmation email that application was successful received immediately. Account anniversary was set for the following day. Debit card / internet banking / funding was approx 5 days later. Hope this helps.
  • Tesco current account not available in N Ireland!!!!
  • Between me and the wife we have 2 ISAs totaling around 20k. as these accounts offer more than the isa and also the wife isnt working or paying tax, would the best way to max interest to transfer out of the ISAs into these accounts in her name and fill out the form not to have tax deducted?

Yes you would benefit from more interest and it would be easy to get the 20k back into ISA's at a later date if need be.

My wife & I would like to open some of these accounts but I notice that each of them asks for information about income. My wife is not currently working and there are no immediate plans for her to go back to work. What is the experience of others with no income opening these accounts ?
