Can anyone recommend a bottle

Hi all,

I have a baby aged 17wks tomorrow he is bottlefed and since birth I have used NUK bottles not the first choice the skinny ones they are made up of bottle, screw top ring, teat, bottle cap and lid. I bought these as DS1 suffered terribly with colic and these helped no end but I cant find the bits for them in any shops an advisor in Mothercare told me they were phasing them out and the only place I have ever found the stuff was pharmacy2u on the web but I have to say one order I placed went 'missing' in the post and it took them four weeks to send me another now for teats that I really needed I thought this was poor customer service and I no longer trust them so I am looking for different bottles colic is less likely to be a problem now that he is a bit older so I dont feel I need the NUK system anymore I had avent bottles with DS1 four years ago and they were terrible leaked milk all over the place he was drenched after every bottle have been looking at the mothercare nuby bottles on the web (but will buy in store) has anyone got them or can anyone recommend anything from personal experience.
Thanks in advance

Poppy x

Avent bottles are really good. There's some sort of air release in them where you don't get the vacuum effect that causes the teat to get sucked out of position.

You musn't tighten the bottle too much as it causes that system to get squashed shut and fail - it always happened when my husband made bottles and that's probably what happened with you. Just make sure the lid is closed nicely, but not tightly. I promise they're great then :)

i used avent with both mine although with the second i did try the Dr Browns anti colic bottles, cost about £12 for 2 and they were utter crap! they leaked constantly and it wasnt just a dribble, ds used to get soaked. so i went back to avent.
It only seems kinky the first time.. :A

We've used Dr Brown's with both of ours and have found them brilliant. For some reason, we've never had the problem with leaking that crispeater mentioned  They're expensive, but we've used the same ones for both children and they're still going strong. Both our babies had to be partially bottle-fed from the start and had problems with colic/reflux and these were the only ones that we found really helped. They're a bit of a pain to wash, with all the bits, but we usually just put them in the dishwasher.

A friend of mine recently switched her very fussy baby from Avent to Dr Brown's, on my recommendation, and he's been like a different baby ever since - apparently all his symptoms disappeared, they no longer even need to use infant Gaviscon. I can't recommend them highly enough!

Dr Brown's bottles here too, and ours have never leaked? We did use Tommee Tippee closer to nature for one weekend when he first went onto bottles, but they caused him his first (and last) bout of colic - never again!

Each child is different, but I've never known a child not to get on with the Dr Brown's bottles - and various friends use them.

i use the tommee tipee closer to nature bottles, as they are sort of breast shaped and wanted to make the switch from breast to bottle easier for DD.
i love them but they are quite wide so you would have to check the size of your steriliser to see how many you could fit in.

Dr Browns and they were brilliant! They only leak if you don't put the anti-colic device in them (not sure why). Having said that, it's no hassle to do!

I liked them as the teats are so soft and it was great to help the transition from breast to bottle as they were nowhere near as tough as the Avent teats.

    Avent here as well!
  • Well having not read this thread I went and bought Motherease bottles with the nuby teats what a pile of s*** they recommended a variflow teat which I duly bought I sat last night cutting all them out the packets sorted the bottles they fit my steriliser perfectly sat my baby down to his bottle this morning half an hour he sucked that teat for and how much milk did he get out not even an ounce in fact I dont think he got any.
So now I am thinking have I wasted £30 on these things will I be able to take them back and switch to Avent as I was misinformed anyone know where I stand I have all packaging and receipt or is it just tough.

    Thanks for any advice
