Two year waiting period!

Hi - can I throw a question out there. My mum in law has just passed away. We have found an insurance policy she took out on 03/07/12, it states they do not pay out if death is within the first two years. My mum in law is 1 week short of the two years! Do you think. The insurance company would reject the claim. The policy is only for £3500. It also states they would refund all the premiums if this is the case which amounts to roughly £930. Seeing as my partner is currently unemployed, this is going to be a huge difference, and a huge worry. He is only interested in paying the funeral costs for his mum. Any advice would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

Unfortunately, yes i think they would only refund the premiums paid.

You could enquire about State Bereavement payment (£2k) to see if your partner's late mother is eligible. This would go some way to help with funeral costs.
