Bathroom Pull Chord Switch problems

The switch sticks so that it stays on, or off.
Been replaced now several times, now lost count.
Replaced the original switch several months ago, this switch came from Travis Perkins, only lasted a few days, replaced again from same supplier Travis Perkins lasted again a few days.
So, bought next replacement from Homebase ( now counting so this the 3rd switch), this lasted several months. Then last week it stuck again, so replaced again with another Homebase. Now 5 days later it is sticking again. So now needs replacing again ( and if you are interested this next change will be number 5).
Now totally P***** off with this pull chord switch. I have been buying the 1 gang 6 AMP switch. I now want to buy the most durable (don't care how expensive) switch, that will last years not days/months, so where to buy please.

In case you are wondering I have taken apart removed faulty switches and their is no evidence of heat damage, the spring mechanism isn't neat the contacts anyway. It is only operating the light and extractor fan.
HELP me please.

MK possibly aren't as good as they used to be, but are available in larger B&Qs

Or Click Scolmore seem to have a good reputation

You could have an electrician come in and rewire one that meets current regulations. That means a regular light switch on the wall outside the bathroom. You definitely won't have switch problems anymore!

  • Doozergirl is right. I have just had a new bathroom put in and they told me that there were new regulations so I changed from a cord pull inside to a dimmer switch on the wall just outside.

crazy question ... do you have something like a parcelin heavy handle on the pull cords ? seems odd that so many switches fail witht he same fault with no commonality like same make / batch etc.

There is nothing prohibiting the use of a pullcord inside the bathroom. An ordinary switch always could be used outside. It may be permitted inside also depending on the size and layout of the bathroom, although I would prefer the pullcord option.

I hate switches outside the bathroom. I don't think my husband will ever get bored of turning the lights off when I'm on the loo/in the shower :p

I'm surprised you've been through so many switches - my Mum has one that sticks very occasionally but it's been used for at least 20 years!

Only once and I changed it and was fine.

Sounds like someone is heavy handed. Surely not *all* those switches can be defective?
