Plug socket 8ft in the air?

Hello everyone,

I have a rather random but niggling question and wondered if anyone had something similar in their home, and could tell me how they've made best use of it :)

I have a single plug socket just underneath the coving of my bedroom ceiling and can not ascertain why or how anyone would be able to use it, or even what it could be used for, as probably the most obvious choice; putting a TV on the wall, would block the fitted wardrobes' doors and frames, etc.

I bought my house in January/February time and I have been trying to "Feng Shui" each room to fit what we need but I've since wondered how or why that plug is up there; I will try and take a photograph to show you what it looks like but in the meantime, if anyone has or has previously had this in their home, I look forward to hearing from you very soon.

P.s - it is a brand new chrome socket as well, which matches all of the chrome sockets and light fittings throughout the entire house so it's not even an old and forgotten about plug that could have been moved or changed in previous renovations.

Ceiling fans run on the lighting circuit not ring main.

If your house is old enough, it was either for:
    1kw Bar heater
    Clock

Everybody else feel free to add....

If you don't want it then have it removed by an electrician. It would taken about 5 minutes to remove it.

I'd check to see if it was on the lighting circuit before I used it. We had a similar 13A socket in our bedroom... on the lighting circuit. I've swapped it for a round pin 2A socket.

We have one in a similar place and it was indeed for a tv but there was a bracket fitted that swung the tv into various different places so maybe yours had a stand on an arm to avoid the wardrobes and frames.. it was there when we moved in but honestly we never used it but are too lazy to remove it lol. the previous owner had some kind of artificial plant wound around the cable from her tv it looked ridiculous.

Is it anywhere near a window? Some old windows had expelair (sp?) fans in them - which may have been removed when the windows were replaced with DG?
