Oh My God! I would be absolutely raging mad! I can't believe a vet doing something like this and the owner not being fully informed and aware of everything that was happening.

Surely I'm not alone in smelling a rat here?

You have to wonder what the vet was thinking.
I would expect them to talk an owner through the procedure even if they have overtly asked for the dog to be put down.

I thought it very extreme, but the paper has asked the vet for comment and got a no comment, so no denial?

If I was in this position the vet wouldn't have got out of there alive. I'm pretty mild mannered but this would tip me over the edge.

The whole thing sounds very weird.
I'm sure the RCVS disciplinary investigation will be thorough to find out the truth.
Whatever the real/accurate story if there was no written consent obtained the the vet will be in a lot of trouble.
It's the paperwork that nails people!
Glad I'm not a member of staff...

Just read those reviews of the vet in question. I cannot believe one person said the vet HIT their dog on more than one occasion then roughly tied his mouth closed with a piece of cloth!:eek:

That vet would most definitely not get a second chance to hit my dog and I'm sure most of us on here would agree with me on that.

He sounds like a thoroughly nasty piece of work and if indeed the newspaper report is true, then the vet should be struck off and never allowed near animals again.

It just sounds so bizarre!?! Everytime I have had a dog PTS, it's been very clear what was about to happen, it's been talked through, what to expect. Very strange.

I honestly do not know how I would react if this happened to me and my dog, I suspect that I would lose it very badly and I would have to go away for a long time. But I usually talk to the vet and ask them what they are doing or what medicine they are giving him and what it does and if there are any side effects, so I just can't imagine it happening to me as I am very much 'hands on'.

If this is true, its the stuff of nightmares. That your beloved, faithful hound could be gone, dead, cold so quickly like that.

I suspect if it was me I would probably completely melt down and have to be taken away by people in uniforms and/or white coats.

Whenever my dogs have had to have injections the vet has always explained what they were giving as why as they were drawing it up and they always gave me chance to ask questions or object, thankfully.
