i have just got my first sewing machine and now i need a table to put it on. what does everyone use? will a regular desk be good enough [ i don't want it to wobble when using the machine] or would i be better with a dining table?

p.s any recommendations for where to buy fabric would be appreciated :-D

I use my regular desk or I have a metal folding table that just hold my machine with enough space for my pincushion and scissors...

It depends on the space you have. My mum always used dining table (we didn't have space for extra table). And it was a hustle to tidy up every time. And put it back again. My grandma had a sewing machine built in the special table. It was really convenient, with some drawers for threads and some sewing stuff. After you finished everything was folded inside (the machine as well) and it looked like a ... tomb - table. It was very good design but it required space. (Buy the way it was very old Singer - non electrical, the one you leg pedal, that was main reason it was build into the table :) but still having speciallly designed table ans working place is really good).
  • I use the cheap Ikea LINNMON tables with screw in legs. I think mine was about £19 and they come in lots of different lengths and widths. I've had a big beast of an embroidery machine going full pelt on one so they are sturdy enough! They are great as you can fashion an L or U shape if you have the room.
