Car insurance - query re. No claims

Hi,
I currently have 6 years no claims on my car and it expires on 31st august.
My problem is my birthday is on the 21st September, 3 weeks into my new insurance policy. So I am always insured under the age I am for only 3 weeks. I will be 25 in September and as everyone knows policies become a bit cheaper once you get past this age.
My question is can I take my car off the road for those 3 weeks until I turn 25 to insure it the day after my birthday or will I lose my 6 years no claims? Sorry I've never done this as I normally do just insure my car so there isn't a day I'm not insured if that makes sense.
Thanks for any help
Becky

Most insurers will allow you a gap of up to two years between policies before your old no claims bonus becomes invalid, so no problems on that front.
If the car isn't insured for three weeks you'll have to SORN it for those 3 weeks, and make sure it's not kept on the road.
Might be an idea to do some dummy quotes nearer the time with a date of birth one month out and see how big the difference is likely to be - not sure whether there's a big drop if you take the policy out in your 25th birthday, or whether it's a more gradual drop as you approach it,0 -

You don't need to SORN a car just for 3 weeks without insurance.
Although continuous insurance is in force, you get a warning letter first, and this won't come in 21 days.
Only if after getting the letter and ignoring it do you run the risk of a fixed penalty for no insurance.0 -

The real difference on reaching 25 is you no longer have to pay the young motorist extra compulsory excess in the event of a claim.
This is applied on the date of the incident any claim refers to, not your age at the start of the policy.0 -
Thanks quentin, yes I've looked and it seems the excess is lowered once you're 25.
It's not worth the hassle for the sake of 3 weeks if a claim excess would be on date of claim and not age at start of policy0
