Wedding Costs

Getting married this September, and the cost could be huge. However, as Martin says, with a little bit of research, it can come down quite a lot. The biggest saving I have found was for the wedding invitations etc. Looked at getting them printed as I wanted, and it would have cost approx £400!!!! for 120 invitations. Outrageous!
Went on eBay to look at buying some card to print my own, and found loads of ready made invitations (similar to those you would buy in Hallmark, Clintons Cards etc) which looked fab. Bought 200 invitaitons for £27. They all came in sealed packs of 10 and are really lovely.
Bit of a difference. So, it might be worth looking at cos they sell all sorts of wedding stationery.:j

My own wedding cost about £2500 which included a very nice wedding breakfast at a top class venue, we kept that bit cosy though, I think their was only 25 of us but I had an evening do elsewhere for 100. I hired my dress, my sis (a hairdresser) did my hair, my friend (a florist) did our flowers and also my bridesmaid dresses, we hired suits and my dress, nice cake, a friend did the photos at cost for us and our honeymoon was a wedding present.
My sister is getting married tomorrow (FRIDAY 13th! ) They have spent in excess of £20,000, £12,000 just on the meal! But its set to pour down all day where we are, shame you can't plan the weather no matter how much money you spend!
Good luck!

We made our own invitations. Bought some card, stamps, ink and glittery stuff and they looked just as good as bought ones. They weren't even difficult to do, and my 20-month old son has more artistic talent than me!0

We did pretty much the same as nej. Had a highly computer literate friend plan the layout, print 100 or so on ordinary white paper and then got lightweight A4 sheets of card from a stationers. These were carefully folded in half and one small corner (bottom right when looking down at completed invite) cut off diagonally with a pair of pinking shears for a bit of a difference. Then over a cuppa, Mum and I sewed the inners in with an ordinary darning needle and a ball of white crochet cotton, which cost me about 20p from a local charity shop. Large cream envelopes to put them in, stamps on and into the letter box. Total cost for well over 100 highly personal and very nicely done invitations - less than £20 and a bit of fiddling about! Good luck with your wedding plans.0
