Washing Machine Door won't open

We have an approx. 10 year old Hoover Nextra (front loader) washing machine that has a stuck door - my wife used it this morning and commented on how hard it was to open the door after the interlock released - but somehow managed to open it .... it is now empty of clothes.
I have now closed the door and the pull handle feels odd (not broken - just not doing anything)
Is there an emergency door release method or are we up the creek without a paddle ?

UPDATE
The washing machined is now leaking
Water is appearing on the kitchen floor under it
I guess that a replacement is required !
10 years is not a bad lifespan0 -

Why don't they do hot fill machines any longer ?
they are cheaper to fill and faster .....0 -
They aren't usually cheaper to run...Why don't they do hot fill machines any longer ? they are cheaper to fill and faster .....
Washing machines are often sited well away from the hot water tank or boiler and a lot of hot water is wasted in the pipe supplying hot water to the washing machine. With cold fill you only pay to heat the volume of water used for a wash.
Even hot fill machines use cold fill only on lower temperature washes (eg 40 and 50 degrees) as otherwise there is a chance that the incoming water will be well above the set temperature and damage or shrink the clothes.0
