tasteless raspberries
I bought some autumn fruiting raspberries from Aldis a couple of years ago, did the staggered chop on them so that I got some summer fruiting as well as the autumn fruiting.
Loads of raspberries but apart from the odd one which has a little bit of flavour the rest have been tasteless.
Any ideas why, would I be better off digging them up and putting in another variety
If so what types will give a good flavoursome crop.
Thanks
Alan

So you buy and grow an Autumn fruiting raspberry, Autumn Bliss perhaps ??
Then try and beat the system by
And now complain?did the staggered chop on them so that I got some summer fruiting
Suggest you replace half your raspberries with an earlier cropping one and leave the rest to grow how nature intended . But I have never tasted raspberries to beat Autumn Bliss.
Mine are just starting to develop fruit.0 -
I have never heard of a staggered crop either. (Mind you, you do live and learn), but assuming there is no such thing, or that it does not work then I would just leave them be for this year and treat as autumn fruiting.
Such thing are I surpose always worth a go but as you have found itt does not appear to work
I would certainly leave them where they are, I would not fancy trying to dig up raspberries.0 -
I had Autumn Gold raspberries which were mostly tasteless and changing pruning methods didn't help though I have met very tasty examples elsewhere. I never did get to the bottom of it, but wondered if they were getting enough sun.But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.
