Argos - returning Washer/Dryer not as described in catalogue.

Hi. I was wondering if I could return a washer/dryer purchased from Argos (exempt from their 30 day returns policy) under the Sale of Goods acts as being not as described.

On Monday 23rd June 2014 my parents purchased the "Hotpoint WDL520 Washer Dryer" in store from Argos which was advertised as having a “delay start” feature in the Argos catalogue. A delay start setting was a feature my parents were very keen on having and it strongly influenced their decision to purchase this model.
They also paid an extra £30 for the “delivery/installation/recycling” option.

In the Argos catalogue (Spring/Summer 2014) - page 785 (model printed on the top right) it says “DELAY START - YES”. 479/9111. My parents purchased the item based on the description in the catalogue.

Today (Saturday 28th June 2014) the Hotpoint WDL520 Washer Dryer was delivered and installed.
However it now appears that this model does not have the “delay start” feature. I cannot find information on how to set the delay start in the instruction manual:
hotpointservice.co.uk/manual/?id=WDL520

In addition the Hotpoint website product page for WDL520 does not make reference to a delay start feature (other models reference a "delay timer" feature):
hotpoint.co.uk/products/-/products/F064657

The Argos website does not reference a delay start (or delay timer) on their Hotpoint WDL520 product page:
argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4799111.htm

So…….

It is reasonable to return the item being not “as described” since it lacks the feature “delay start” printed in the catalogue. Could Argos point out their website didn’t mention this feature and cover themselves? Could they say it was a printing error in the catalogue and cover themselves?

My parents paid Argos an extra £30 for installation of the new washer/dryer and recycling of their old broken washing machine. Since this was a "service" and not the "goods" can they get this get refunded or can Argos deduct this?

If they get a refund Argos will have to arrange for collection and removal of the washer/dryer - will this be free of charge or can they be charged/deducted for collection/removal?

I have read through the advice section on Sale of Goods Acts and I’m hoping my parents get a refund since it’s not “as described” in the catalogue. Can anyone clarify if I’m right (or wrong) or if there's anything I'm missing.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Hi. Thanks for looking this up. That link you posted appears to be from the Irish Hotpoint site. The only reference to the "DELAY TIMER" is in the troubleshooting section. Outside of that one reference the Irish version doesn't give any indication of how to set a delay timer.

If you compare the Irish site instructions the UK site instructions that specific line referencing the "DELAY TIMER" is missing from the UK version (Page 13 Troubleshooting - "The wash cycle does not start").
The UK site version can be viewed here:
    hotpointservice.co.uk/manual/?id=WDL520

That seems like maybe the delay timer reference was printed in error.

To answer the question ... I believe the answer is Yes, to both. (The service element was conditional on the correct, as advertised, product being delivered and installed).
