Riverside Hotel or B&B 2/3hrs from Gatwick

Options
Hi

Am looking for a riverside or canalside hotel or B&B within 2/3 hours drive of Gatwick for a long weekend 25th July. We like boats and walks and I am after somewhere we can sit in the grounds or garden and watch the world go by. The busier the river the better :)

I took a short boat trip from Stratford upon Avon once and the houses that backed onto the river would be ideal but I can't find any hotels or B&B's that have similar locations.

This would be ideal but they are fully booked !

Any suggestions ?

Many thanks

Claire

There are hotels by the river in Oxford. We have not stayed in one, but we when we stayed in a Devere hotel near Abingdon, there was a nice old fashioned pub in Abingdon we went to, where that beer garden overlooked the river. It was nice to eat outdoors and watch the boats go by. The hotel we stayed in Abingdon was lovely with nice grounds and if you can't find a river hotel, you could look at staying there and getting a cab into the town.

not stayed there for decades, so can't really give an up to date view on it - I know it was affected by flooding over the winter but it looks like it's been refurbished since

There is The Great House hotel and the French Horn at Sonning. haven't stayed in either but French horn well known for its restaurent and tehre is also a dinner theatre in Sonning - The Mill. Wouldn't think its the busiest stretch of river but it is the Thames so must be a certain amount of activity.

Runnymede Hotel at Egham maybe. You could easily get into London if it's raining or you've had enough of watching swans.

The Anchor in Pyrford Lock (Surrey) doesn't have rooms, there may be somewhere nearby, but as a pub on the river, it is fantastic!

Can very much recommend Globe Place, Hellingly
B&B, Lovely, period house with a small outdoor pool. Tennis court as well but it was a little ropey last time I was there.
    Very pretty gardens.
The hosts are a delight. Very entertaining!
