claim for non-accident in hospital car park

Options
I am very disturbed by this. My 82 year old mother drove to hospital and parked her car without incident a month or so ago.

We have now had a claim made against us through our insurers , with an independent witness apparently, that my mother reversed into and damaged another car. she is certain that she did not btw.

There has now been an assessors report done which found no relevant damage to our car but scrapes of its paint on the other car !

It all seems very dodgy indeed.

anyone had similar ?

Maybe she nudged another car while parking and didn't realise it at the time. Or maybe someone's going to quite a bit of trouble to blame her for a scratch on his own car so he can get it fixed without affecting his own NCD. However if there's an independent witness and an assessors report to say that she did nudge the car, then unless she has more evidence than her own say so to show that she didn't her insurers are likely to pay out I'm afraid - they'd be onto a loser if they tried to fight a claim in those circumstances.

Many Hospital Car Parks have CCTV... you should ask your insurers to see if they can get hold of the footage

There is nothing useful about that advice. In fact, there are so many answers that he gives that are wholly wrong that it's best to avoid the site altogether.

  • Kilobite is correct, your only hope is CCTV exonerates her. Hard to see how paint from her car would have got onto the other one unless there was a collision though, so unless they hit her car...

Ultimately it will come down to the independent witness. Try for CCTV but its generally fairly useless

Civil courts work on the balance of probability. She admits being there at the time of the incident and presumably reversed and so if someone who is totally unconnected with the other party is willing to stand in court and say they saw her hit the other vehicle then it'll be a simple case.
  • If you are sure she did not hit the other vehicle you could always report it to the police as a possible scam. They may investigate, or have heard of others in a similar position.
