...So, staying on topic...
You get a letter with 2 lists of acceptable documents to prove identification and address.
Obvious one for address is any utility bill. Must be original, not printout, which can be a pain. For the proof of id, they need it the copy to be 'certified'- the easiest (and cheapest) way is to get it certified (stamped, there are instructions on other info they need to write) at your bank.
I did this recently and received my copies back with a one-line letter "Please find enclosed the documents that you provided recently. We'll be in touch shortly."
I presume that's a good sign. We'll see.
I had applied before Tesco's current account had become available. I do wonder if the outcome would have been any different applying to the current (I can't now because I have an ongoing application and the system recognises and blocks). Whenever I've applied for current accounts the online verification has been enough- only ever needed posting documents with these saver only institutions.
Also, even if Tesco don't/won't have branches, they could perhaps do ID verification in person at customer service in major stores.0 -
As an update, 1 week has passed and still nothing.
I will give them a call in a few days. Was planning to also open a current account with them but if this is a sign of things to come, won't bother.0
