Hi,
Does anyone have any advice on whether I might be able to claim compensation on my new build being delayed at short notice?
I'm buying a new build, contracts have been exchanged and when I visited the site last week the completion date was still set for 30th June (ie. Monday). This week I have received letters from my solicitor with mortgage deeds to be signed and a final completion statement suggesting everything was set for completion on 30th June. Yesterday though, I received a call from the sales advisor saying that it has been delayed by 2 weeks.
I have to be out of my current rented property by end of next week so will technically be homeless.
Can anyone advise if I might be able to claim some form of compensation as they have effectively only given me 2 days notice?
Thanks in advance!

Be happy it is only 2 days, similar thing happened to us a few months back, only it was nearly 2 months for us. They 'guaranteed' us 2 weeks before Easter that we would be in just before Easter weekend, we finally moved in the on the 28th of May. We did get some compensation from the builders (though they did end up paying us a grand less than originally agreed, the little weasels) and were lucky that our landlord agreed to let us stay till our new house was completed.0

The contract will allow for this but it is a bit surprising. Monday is the end of the financial year for most housebuilders and they are usually desperately keen to complete before midnight.
Which builder is it?0 -

When I bought a new build in 2012 it was 'on notice'. This meant that I would be given 10 working days (so two weeks) notice of the completion/move in date. The house was completed as in finished being built before this notice point but had to have the NHBC inspection. The two weeks notice was given at the point of this inspection being competed. So the house completion/finish of the build date was not the actual completion as in move in date. However this was all very clear in the contract and my solicitor explained it all. If your solicitor has been told an official completion date of Monday then yes the builder would be in breach if they did not legally complete on this date. You should speak to your solicitor about this. If, on the other hand, you were merely told an expected completion date but notice has not legally been give to your solicitor then you are unlikely to get any compensation. Such is the nature of buying a new build.0

Thanks for your replies. Unfortunately I didn't get the call till 5.40pm so the solicitors had already gone home for the weekend and I will have to wait till Monday to speak to them.
They said the outside spaces had not been passed by the inspector.
The house is not in Burnley but I am a fan of the new Premier League team!0
