Anyone know mobile phone coverage in Swansea area?

I'm not sure which is the best board for this question, so I hope it's OK for me to post here.

My mum is currently in Morriston hospital in Swansea, but it is difficult for us to contact her because the ward don't have a phone they can take to her bedside. I took my mobile when I went to visit, but my Orange/EE phone had absolutely no signal (no bars at all).

I'd like to take her a cheap mobile, but it's not going to be worth it if there is no signal. I wondered if anyone here knows the area, and knows if another network would be worth trying?

Thank you in advance for any help!

On each networks website there should be a coverage checker. You can put the postcode in and it'll tell you what it's like at the hospital.

Because of the concern about mobile phones interfering with hospital equipment, some hospitals (or hospital departments where cellphone signals could be problematic) are designed to restrict cell phone signals. Rooms can be designed as a kind of Faraday cage to limit cellphone usage.

This might be why there was no reception on your phone. Also, the thick concrete walls are often not conducive to good cellphone reception in hospitals.

I don't know if its the same in Morrison hospital but patients at the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport can make free calls to landline telephone numbers from those personal tv !!! phone things that each patient has beside their beds.

I'm in Swansea. Three network seems to work okay for me. Not found a black spot yet. Have previously had orange and vodaphone, both if which lost network coverage at points.

Thank you everyone. Unfortunately the ward doesn't have a phone/tv by the beds, and they don't seem to have any way to get a landline phone to her. I thought they had relaxed the rules about mobiles in hospitals nowadays - it hasn't been an issue when other family members have been in other hospitals, and I didn't see any notices. I might have to get a cheap unlocked phone and I'll try a three card or O2.

My son has been in morriston many times and the phone reception has been good. I've only ever used a 3 sim whilst he's been there.

I'm with O2, never had a problem in Morriston hospital. 3G was a godsend whiling away the hours while waiting in A&E.

Thank you! I'm starting to wonder if the problem was that my phone lost connection on the journey there and didn't reconnect rather than a problem with the signal at the hospital.

Well, I'm back from Swansea and I've taken my mum an O2 phone. The signal in the ward seemed to vary from nothing one minute to four bars when we moved the phone to the other side of the bed. Still she was able to phone my dad so that was all that we really needed.
