Stamp collection, how do we sell???

My mother in law has a vast collection of stamps she wants to sell (40 books). My father in law collected these over 60 years! She has someone coming next week to have a look at the stamps but how do we know how much they're really worth. Does anyone know any where we can take them to have them valued please?
HOW MUCH ?

Well the most well known shop in the stamp world is Stanley Gibbons. Have a look round their site and in particular this page for further info:

Apart from that you local auction house might be able to offer an opinion but they won't necessarily have anyone who specializes in stamps.

Stanley Gibbons offer a valuation for a fixed £5 fee.

With 40 albums, I'd say it's worth investing a fiver and you might be able to offload at least some of it immediately.

Are they from one country? If France he may have been a member of the France and Colonies club and I can put you in touch with someone who helps with cases like this. I found this whilst selling my late fathers stamps.
Otherwise look at Auction houses like Cambridge or Cavendish.
    PM me if you like.

Stanley Gibbons catalogues give you their selling price for one single stamp. When you are selling you should expect a fraction of catalogue value unless the items are very rare. There are a number of specialist auctions and companies who will buy worthwhile collections. Getting several valuations is a good idea, but bear in mind that many large collections are of stamps printed in their millions and are of little value.

    Though you never know!
