Putting the theory into practice

Options
:eek:I've just used the Snowball calculator

57 months and how much interest??? I don't think so.....

So it's batten down the hatches time and use every MSE trick I know to bring this down from the 57 months quoted.

This was probably a bad time to look at the Snowball Calulator as DH is soon to be made redundant (possibly as soon as next week) and I'm off sick with stressy type things at the moment - hence the available time to investigate at the calculator. But looking on the bright side - I now have a timescale to beat - and the amount of interest I would have to pay if I don't reduce this is enough to make me determined.

And in the spirit of onwards and upwards today I have:-
  • Had a NSD
  • Filled in spreadsheet, checked banks and paid all bills (DH pay day)
  • Adpoints
  • Foraged in freezer for tea
It's not much, but it's a start and now I'm off to clean out the fridge - I know how to live :p

  • I think the issue of redundancy makes this the perfect time to start. Well done on the baby steps so far. Can't wait to see your progress.

Well - cleaning out the fridge was a revelation. I had no idea that so many lifeforms could exist in that temperature

So yes, I am ashamed :o however I now have an almost empty & beautifully clean fridge, I now KNOW what I need to buy for the week and I have realised that I buy way too much cheese. When you consider I'm lactose intolerant this is kind of ironic.

Anyhow, menu plan has been made up for the week (cauliflower cheese and macaroni cheese both feature - do you see a theme here?) with 2 nights having been designated freezer nights - DH deserves to be scared as I have a habit of popping stuff in the freezer & not being able to identify it later.......

Washing no 1 is out on the line with no 2 in the machine.

But apart from the "sticking to the list" shopping I will be spending no money and will spend the weekend at Stepford Wife tasks.
I don't enjoy housework (does anyone) but I love my wee house & it's nice to see it clean, tidy & smelling fresh - and there may be a Home Visit from Line Manager this week so clean & tidy would look good.

I do need to look at a bank acct for DH so that his redundancy money doesn't just sit in his main account and I'll need to get him to call Sky to check when the movie package offer we have needs to be cancelled - but apart from that, I shouldn't need to nag him (much):D

Have a good weekend y'all - and I hope it's warmer where you are then it is here.

Well, yesterday was a day of chillness with DH and not much spending.

Probably just as well as his day off has been changed this week as all management have been summoned to a meeting on Thursday - and the rumour is the displaced ones will be let go immediately:eek::eek:

But the practicalities are ongoing .....

Menu planning - it's wonderful - no need to have to think about what's for tea as it's planned in - and all the odds and ends in the fridge get used up. OK - we did splurge a bit yesterday & had American pancakes with maple bacon for breakfast (blaming Celebrity masterchef for this) but there is enough left for this again on Wed when DH is off.

And on to today - I'm not going out so it is a NSD and all the bills have been paid and bank money has been beautifully reshuffled so that all the d/ds on the 1st are covered.

Then I need to look for this bank acct for DH (Quidco) and I've noticed on a couple of threads that people send books to Amazon for cash - must investigate this as I have a load of books needing "recycled".

That's all for now folks - I'm away to cut the grass before it becomes a jungle.

:j:jDH has had word today that he has "an assessment" for a job on Wed and one on 15th :j:j

Also telephone interview for another job on Wed too - it gives him confirmation that his job is redundant, not him.

Cross your fingers for him folks.....

It always amazes me just what you find growing in the fridge.

Thanks E-I - the e-mails for both assessments have just pinged through - it's nerve wracking. He has to produce a SWOT analysis for the one on Wednesday so he'll be busy tonight & tomorrow with that.

And yes - to fridge wildlife. The freezer needs tackled next - that will be a :eek::eek: I reckon.

  • I've recently done my freezer, I wrote everything that is in it on the side with dry wipe markers, and cross it off when I have used it. I also put stickers on home made boxes of food, with contents and date I put it in.

Not sure how long this level of organisation will last. Last time I tried to do it it lasted till the next time I went shopping :rotfl:, but I did it a few weeks ago now, and as far as I am aware everything is still up to date (that is unless someone else has taken something out of the freezer and not told me!) Solves the whole mystery box problem :rotfl:

Well - the macaroni cheese is ready to pop in the oven when DH comes home. It has been made with an interesting "combination" of cheeses - all the opened & half used ones getting to or having passed the use by dates. There were no hairy bits though so food poisoning is extremely unlikely.
And soup made from yesterday's chicken is on the hob - just needs rice added to it & we have tomorrow's tea (& I can portion it out so the stock pot doesn't take up the whole fridge).
I've heard of rubber chicken & we do this to a small extent - but I've never worked out how people can get so many meals out of 1 chook. We usually get a big pot of soup (6-8 portions) & a roast but I then hear of people getting enough chicken for fajitas, risotto and the like - please tell me how you do this (or have I just bought really small chickens?).

    Catch you later folks

  • Maybe they don't make 8 portions of soup.

Fair comment INOD - but by the time I put the chicken in the pot with all the veg - that's the number of portions I seem to get. But you have made me think - I put the whole chicken in the stock pot to boil away & then strip it - I might be better stripping it first and portioning out the meat before using only the carcase for stock - will try this next time.

Anyhow - DH had his PA :p type up his SWOT analysis in preparation for tomorrow - and today said PA will need to go out to get some classy paper & a wee classy folder to present it. PA will also need to get some bread & a couple of wee things from the £1 shop.

Having a very "gentle" day today as was awake from 2am-5am - even considered getting up @ 3 to do the ironing but decided against it. TBH, I think it's just the worry of the assessment for DH tomorrow & possible joblessness for him on Thursday. The thing is - we'll manage financially but he's never been out of work & this is what's worrying him.

    So today's MSE stuff:-
    • Check banks - all done & all good
    • Adpoints - none available
    • Mystery shops - none really suitable
    • Shopping to small list only
    • Ironing
    • Bit of cleaning/bit of tidying - you know the sort

    Have a good day y'all
