Sky tv to other rooms?

Hi

I have Sky tv downstairs (not the plus one) Upstairs I have what was originally a free NTL tv box that came with the phoneline as a package. But I remembered reading on here that if I didnt want that NTL box upstairs it would save me I think £10 a month so I dont know what happened to the package deal. Anyway I do not have a tv aerial at all so when the NTL box is taken away I wont be able to use the tv upstairs. Is there any cheap way of being able to use the sky tv from downstairs on the upstairs one aswell? Also hoping not to confuse people but at the moment the upstairs NTL box has an adjoining cable to my daughters bedroom too which also has no aerial so when the NTL box is gone the tv in my daughters room will also stop working. I just want to find a way of saving the money I spend a month on the NTL box but still be able to use the tvs without aerials. Ive tried portable aerials and they do not work and didnt know if it would be worth having an aerial put back on the roof as it was quoted to be quite expensive as I'd need 2 aerials and a booster

Would a Freeview box do the same job as the ntl box without a tv aerial? although it would be nice to get the sky up there because there would be more channels

Couldnt find a section on here that deals with TV thingies so posted it here not sure if its the right place...
Thanx

Get yourself a "magic eye" it was the best £20 I ever spent!
You can only watch the same channels as the main Sky TV downstairs - but you won't need to worry about aeriels or anything. just run a cable from the RF2 socket on the back of your sky box upstairs, plug the magic eye into that & your 2nd TV - Hey presto, Sky upstairs!!!

Wow sounds good, I'd need to go through the ceiling maybe though so I'd have to get someone to do it for me.

What about the control? can I control the channels from the upstairs aswell? would I need another control?

Also how would that work on the 3rd tv upstairs that at the moment has a link to the ntl box. I actually just have to switch that 3rd tv onto channel 6 which is the ntl channel but cant control it from there but still its handy for my daughter. Is it possible to make it work somehow in her room? by putting another spliter in the back of the 2nd tv upstairs that the magic eye will be used on?
    Thanx

I'm not too sure about a 3rd TV. Yes you would need a 2nd remote control for the 2nd telly (they're cheap enough to get hold of) Check out eBay (where I got mine) & mail the sellers with questions - I find that the're usually quite knowledgable & helpful (if they think they're going to get a sale out of you!).
They've come down in price now too, £6.25 incl. P & P was the cheapest I could find. Coaxial cable & the connectors are pretty cheap too. Don't be put off by thew wiring, it's childs play to set up.

we got one last week-perfect for my son's room!! It seems to work fine-just have to run the cable from the sky box to my son's room which is the longest part of the job-the only other thing you have to do is go into the set-up menu on sky to turn the RF output to on-this gives a 9Volts supply up the cable so the magic eye can work!!!
we brought the tv link and spare remote control for about£16 from a website.....

    Which website was that cookie?

Also I'm gonna have to get someone to fit mine though even though I know the wiring is simple coz the wiring in this case will have to go through the outside wall and along and up again to the upstairs bedroom.

Where would I need to look for someone who fits them sky themselves?

For really simple fix and without the need for wires, try a digisender.
    This link:
    http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=3151&productId=120273&Trail=C%24cip%3D21872.Sound%2Band%2Bvision%3EC%24cip%3D21888.Accessories%2Band%2Bbatteries%3EC%24cip%3D21901.Digisenders&categoryId=21901&clickfrom=name
Costs £29.99 from Argos and I use this to send Sky to my TV upstairs.
I was going use cable but I thought I would try the sender and it works very well!
All you do is put the scart lead into the VCR socket on the back of the sky box and plug the coloured leads into the sender. Do the same upstairs with the other one except putting the scart into the TV! Hey presto tv from upstairs! You can also operate the Sky box as well with your remote as it comes with a small lead with three "eyes" that you place in front of Box or Video or DVD player.

    Cheers

Ah, but the only problem with this is it only sends/receives standard pal rather than RGB - Which is better quality.

  • If you're going for the sender option, then why not try - http://www.toysrus.co.uk/Product.aspx/TruOrFindUsing/TruAZOfBrands/TruHomeEntertainmentMedion/331066 - It's a Medion Video Sender thingie from Toys R Us for £20. Bought one myself the other month and works perfectly. Ok, the picture is not as crystal as a proper wired connection but it's perfectly watchable. Showing as out of stock on the website, but your local store may well have some in.
  • Type in 'sky tv link' on google and you will find loads of places which sell it . Get a sky remote aswell and then plug it in either end . Picture isnt brill but watchable hope this helps ;)

I bought a wireless DigiSender the last time Aldi had one on offer - about £20 I think. Its fantastic, the picture on my upstairs TV is almost as good as the original. I bought a second Sky remote off eBay for about £10 and it works a treat.
