deduction from deposit to remove sky dish?

Options
Just after some advice. Our previous landlord wants to make a deduction of £75 to remove a sky dish we have had installed on property.
I know I'm likely going to liable for this but I'm not so sure the landlord is actually going to get this done.

Do I have any right to be provided with proof that the work has been done (invoice perhaps)

thank you

You installed that dish without permission, and that damaged the wall in any case. You even acknowledge that you're liable.
£75 is very reasonable. Move on.

Did you get permission to have it installed? Was there any comment of a cost to remove it afterwards?

Presumably more of the cost is to reinstate the interior wall than actually remove the dish itself? Why not do it yourself if you want to save the monies?

Did you get permission to install the satellite dish? I had one installed in my current rented home but I did get (written) permission and was told it was fine as long as the dish was at the back of the property and was installed using one of the approved contractors (not Sky who just drill holes through the wall to bring the cables inside). I would hope that I don't have to pay to have the dish removed.

The LL doesn't have to provide you with proof that the work has been carried out. I think the LL just has to satisfy the DPS that the cost of having the work done is reasonable if it goes to arbitration.

Agree with jjlandlord. Unless this was done with permission, you just have to swallow it, at least the charge is not stupid.

Thank you for the replies. I didn't say I didn't want to pay it I said I jut wanted to be sure I'm not handing money over for nothing. If it was just one reasonable deduction then perhaps 'moving on' would be easier but I'm not about to be taken for a ride.

We did get permission but only verbal (our own fault) the landlord saw the dish months ago and had no problem however now it seems to be a case of claim for everything!

I don't think it's reasonable to charge for something you are not going to do but if that's where I stand then fair enough.
Thanks know you for the advice.

Unfortunately Landlords can, and do, charge for work where they can whether or not they intend to get it done or not. They may also charge at market rates where they will simply deal with something themselves.

Does the equipment still technically belong to Sky? I know some packages and installations aren't "yours", this is just something to clarify.

The only other thing I would be inclined to do is demand the dish back.

    Xx

You almost certainly own the dish. Tell the landlord you want your dish back - though you may then have to find someone to remove the dish and repair any damage for under £75, which could be tricky. You may find the dish can stay if you give the LL some cash - i.e. £37.50.

be wary of making a fuss with the dish though , they arent worth nowt and are a pain to store!
Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

Whack it in a bin outside the flat / house. The point is you get what you have paid for - removal of satellite dish.
