First time Credit Card for Petrol only?

We have just had our business mileage petrol taken away at work, and now have to pay for our business and private journeys.

I just was thinking of the best way to do this and earn rewards or cash back? We have no credit cards as we prefer to do everything just on debit cards but maybe I could earn points/rewards if I did look at a simple credit card for fuel only?

I would always set this to pay back IN FULL at the end of the month, but with using our local petrol station (which allows us to also use Tesco Clubcard points)

What would be the best most economical solution for just fuel purchases with any sort of reward scheme or points?

Thank you

It's 3%, but up to £9 p.m. while the monthly fee is £2 (refunded for the first year if you have 123 current account).

Have a look at Fuel Card Services. While they don't offer rewards many of their cards, for example their BP card, offer a price saving.

Remember you go to work to earn money, not to spend your own to help your employer out ;)

If the employer won't pay for use of your own vehicle on their business, "the best most economical solution" is not to use it.
(Actually this is usually the case even if they do pay)

    Simples!

Thanks but probably I wasn't clear.. this has now ended so we have to now pay our own fuel, so just wondered if this was a good time to look at some rewards or saving scheme whereby I could earn some points etc from it, instead of just paying for petrol week in week out like we currently do..

I thought it might be a good time to look into this before I fall into the trap of just filling up each time at random stations, with whatever money is in my pocket :o

I'm not sure what you mean by 'fall into the trap of just filling up etc'; either you need petrol or you don't

using a credit card with rewards make the same amount of sense with petrol as with general shopping.

CCs with rewards are often hard to get unless your already have CC (as so proved you can handle credit properly); so you may have difficulty.

What do you mean by "this has now ended"?

Why are you expected to pay for journeys wholly & necessarily incurred in the performace of your duties as an employee?

If the employer has ended the funding, presumably he has ended the requirement/expectation of you to travel using your own vehicle.

Woudk be unusual not to be recompensed but not impossible.

If that's the case then the employee can claim the cost of business mileage back from hmrc as an expense, getting credited back through refund or amendment to their tax code.

Don't forget to fill in your P87 each April if you're using your car and getting less than 45p a mile ;)

Ah. I was just looking into this for uniforms and thought that I couldn't claim mileage (I do outpatient visits in the afternoons) as recieve payments, but if this is less than 45p per mile I can still claim?

Also, I want to do several years worth of claims but the beta P87 only allows for a year at a time. As it is such a long form I'd rather not have to fill it in 4 times over - does anyone know if you can still just send them a letter like you used to have to do?

    Thanks.
