Tesco Credit Card

I'm about to cancel my Tesco credit card having just paid it all off - does anyone know how long it will be before I'm deemed to be a 'new customer' and can apply for a card with for example 0% purchases for 18months?

Thanks

I do not know if this applies to Tesco but with a car breakdown company they told me I needed to be "away from them" for a clear year before they would count me as "new business" again.
After 30 years of mortgage paying we are blessed to say we are MORTGAGE FREE 11 years early :)

Their online application process at http://www.tescobank.com/creditcards/clubcc/apply.html only asks that you declare that you don't currently have one (and haven't applied for one within six months):
Please check that the following statements are true:
    • My annual income is £5,000 or more.
    • I'm 18 years of age or over (the same goes for any additional card holders).
    • I've got a good credit history.
    • I live in the UK or have a BFPO address.
    • I don't currently hold a Tesco Bank Credit Card.
    • I have not applied for a Tesco Bank Credit Card in the last six months.

Eskbanker's post is interesting but those aren't necessarily the only restrictions. There's nothing to stop them also applying undeclared rules about how long customers have to have been away.

I'd be interested in knowing how you get on as I'll be in the same boat soon.

This is true, I guess, since they have no obligation to give you credit.

However, they were previously a joint venture with RBS (and their statements still look the same), so I'd guess 8 months? Ringing them would be a lot easier than speculating on a forum though!

I've just cancelled my card last week and they told me over the phone I would be eligible to apply again in 6 months however, the cancellation letter I received advised it's 8 months so I would say I would leave it for 8 months just to be sure.

I had a similar experience a couple of months ago. I was told 6 months on the phone, but the letter confirming closure said 9 months.
