Checking which credit card to apply for with different results...?

Options
Hi,

trying to apply for my first credit card, so I used MSE eligibility checker and Experian to match me with credit cards. Results are quite the opposite. MSE says I have 80% to qualify for Barclaycard, Experian doesnt even list it. That says I should try Aqua or Capital One, but MSE says I have poor or no chance on getting those. Now what? Which one should I believe? I got turned down in the past because I just went for it without knowing anything but I'm not more clever now when I'm trying to check my chances before applying. :-/

Please help, how should I do this?

Do you think your main issue is a lack of credit history? or do you have any negative information on your credit files?

The MSE checker uses the data from your callcredit report.

I think the experian report only lists lenders who pay them a referral fee, unlike MSE.

80% is a pretty good %, I think I'd be tempted to take the chance on that one.

If it's your first credit card, then the usual suspects would be your own bank, followed by the likes of aqua, Vanquis,Cap One or Barclaycard Initial (not necessarily in that order).

    Hi,

Thank you. :) I have nothing negative on my files, everything is green. I think main problem with me is that I don't have much of a history apart from bills etc being paid all normally as this would be my first. Also being a carer for relative doesn't help as I put down: homemaker (don't know what would be a closer name) who doesn't earn much. I wouldn't spend on much, really just to be covered in any case and to build a credit history for the future... but they don't know that :-/

Actually Barclays' checker gave me 8/10 as well so that would make it obvious to go for it, but: when they turned me down for another credit card they advised me to go on Experian as they use it as well. So Experian not recommending them has made me suspicious. They definitely have Barclaycards listed there because when my husband tried it last year he got them on his list. Applied for one and got accepted straight away.

So IDK really. I might try for this Barclaycard but won't be surprised if I'll be in the 20%.
