Elderly relative has had to go into care and we have tried to cancel bt contract and they are insisting we pay the remainder of the contract in full. Surely under these circumstances this is not right, does anybody have any experience of this

It's certainly not your debt to have to pay, but if your relative is still in a minimum term of contract then it is usual for an Early Termination Of Contract (ETC) fee to be charged.

Moneyineptitude is correct in what he said. So ask BT if they can transfer the BB contract to the Care Home. I doubt they will be able to, so this may be a get out clause with no early termination fee.

But don't use the phones (they are useless), use this link instead -

    https://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4950

It goes to a British based BT Care Team and they will take ownership of the problem for you (but they can take up to 4 days to respond). Hope you get it sorted soon.
