Camera Repaired under insurance but still faulty

I was wondering if anyone could help me? I recently had cause to claim for damage to my camera on my house insurance. I contacted the insurers and they asked me to get an estimate for repair. This I did at a cost of £48, which in turn would be deducted from any final costs, should the repair go ahead.
Upon receiving the estimate of just over £200 I contacted my insurers again and they authorised the repair.
The camera was sent back to me and almost immediately(within 12 hours) the fault recurred. I contacted the company who repaired it and they said I must return it under the repair warranty which I have. They stated that I must contact the Insurers as there may be additional costs. they then came back and said that they could not find a fault. I even sent them a picture that clearly showed the original fault reappearing in the display of the camera.
I contacted the insurers and they stated that it was no longer their responsibility and that my contract was not with them it was with the repairer although I went through them and they requested the estimates prior to them approving the repair.

What is my situation if the company keep insisting that there is no fault and what is my position with my insurers?

  • I would side with the insurer. It is the repairer's responsibility to provide warranty for their repair work. The originally job is not done right, the repair shop has no right to ask you or your insurer for further money for the 'repair warranty' (as the cost of repair was agreed before hand and the exchange of contract already taken place). I would write a polite complaint letter to them and see what happens.

    What you can do is you can setup another brand new claim with your insurer for damage, though if there is an excess I'd just leave it.
