Can my employer come to my house unannounced?

Before you do anything, make sure your information is correct. Who told you what the area manager did/didn't do? What they do/don't believe? Someone you trust utterly, who is completely reliable, or a half-wit who might have misinterpreted something, or the office stirrer who likes to wind people up and watch them go? Only if you are absolutely sure of the veracity (and motives!) of what you've been told, go in and just ask the manager clearly and directly if what you have been told is true, and if so, what it was that led to the suspicion about your integrity. Then show the paperwork, if it is needed.Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0

I had to go to my companies head office today (a 200 mile round trip) and broke down on the way there. I called and kept them informed of my situation.
My area manager was at my office today and I've found out she didn't believe I had broken down. As my house is close, a colleague took her there to see if I was there or my car was. My car was there because I had taken my girlfriends and so she thinks I'm making it up. I know she turned up at my house as my neighbour saw her and told me.
I didn't attend the meeting as I got towed home and called to try and rearrange it for tomorrow instead and I would get a train.
My question I this, is she allowed to go to my house unannounced? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.
Why not?
Mind you, your manager must have no work to do if she thinks it is worth her while doing this.0 -
Many years ago I worked for an employer that would call your home number every day if you went off sick to check you were at home. They'd just put the phone down when you answered (in the days before 1471). I only found out when another employee worked it out, having been dragged out of her bed 3 days in a row to answer a silent call. I recalled being called when I took an afternoon off.
What a stupid thing to do.
If you live on your own, you have to go out even when you are sick sometimes (eg: to buy aspirins)0 -
This story falls apart with the neighbour knowing that the area manager drove past. I mean, come on. Pull the other one.0

I know. They were wierd people to work for and I stayed 5 years. I'm still friends with a lot of my former colleagues from there 25 years later - we were comrades in adversity.Make £2025 in 2025

The title is very misleading.....the manager never actually went to the op's house let alone unanonuced...they actually drove past and at the most slowed down near his property...according to the neighbour who knows the op's area manager and workmate!!!0

Exactly and the OP has been asked twice already. I reckon the manager was right. After all, the only way the OP could have the paperwork was if his GF broke down (don't forget he was using her car!).
OP is just annoyed that he's been found out. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.
