Adding named driver question

Adding a friend of mine as a named driver on my car insurance reduces my quotes by £100. I am 27 and have 1 year NCB. Full EU driving licence.

My friend owns his own car. What if he has an accident with that other car? Would that affect my own insurance?

I've tried to find this on the forum search but no luck.

Thanks!

If he had an accident driving his own car it would not lead to a claim on your policy or have any effect on your no claims bonus, but you would have to declare the accident if you wanted to add him again next year, and that might have an effect on your premium as you'd now be adding someone with a bit of a history of having accidents. Of course if that happened you could always not add him next year, or find a different friend to add to get your premium down.

He should also inform his own insurer that he's a named driver on another policy as that's one of the questions they ask, and it may have an effect on his own premium (but probably not much).

You would need to declare the accident under his driving history, normally only at renewal but some may want to know ASAP.

It is likely this will increase your insurance but if its more than the £100 that they knock off for you having him on the policy only time will tell. Of cause if it does then take him off and your policy goes back to the original price (your only impacted whilst he is on the policy when the accident/ claim is on his other car)

Ok that's what I was expecting. Thanks for the info, I managed to get a good quote through an owners club (at even cheaper than if I added on my friend as a named driver).
