Replacing baxi boiler and baxi gas fire??

Has anyone had any experience of this? Our front room has an open coal fire, and on the other side of the wall, in the kitchen, sits a baxi gas fire (share the flume) They were fitted in the mid 90's and are due an upgrade/replacement to a combi system.
My questions are:
Cost - both system and labour to fit it
How much disruption this will cause
How long it will take
Can we keep the open fire if we get rid of the gas fire on the other side of the flume??
any advice would be great!
TIA!

The open fire, will be using the same chimney stack, but will have a separate flue inside that stack, so as long as there is no damage when they take the old flue liner out for the back boiler, you should be ok. Just make sure, they do a proper flue check on the open fires flue, so it is not leaking into the other flue and any of the rooms too.
Cost wise, I will leave that to some of the RGI's on here to answer, but it will entail quite a bit of messing around pipework wise and the cylinder will go, so you may end up with a bigger airing cupboard to use. It will take a couple of days I would think. Just make sure they take the whole BBU and liner out and cap all the pipes connected to it, some will try and leave them in. If you want to still use the gas fire in there, they will just cap all the water pipes and leave everything else in situ. You need to tell them this first, as they cannot just refit the gas fire without the BBU, they work hand in hand with each other, the flue for the fire goes through the back boiler and then up the liner.
If it were me, I would get them to take all the BBU and fire out, check if the liner is ok and then fit a new , nicer gas fire in it's place, which can utilise the liner which is fitted. Most important thing is that they check the flue properly, so you can rest easy knowing the open fire is safe to use.0 -
Is the boiler still working? if it is I wouldn't change it just for the hell of it.
Recently I did the sums for doing that very task, and the cost to do so would take 10 years to get back with the improved effieicncy, and in that time the boiler will probably need replacing again.
The Baxi BBU is one of the most reliable boilers ever made
You will be looking at 3-5k to do the work + whatever the replacement fire costs0
