Buy one Get one Free ??

Hi all,

Some advice needed please.
I shopped online on Saturday with Ocado spent about £80 and one item was 4 Waitrose Aberdeen Angus Steak Burgers.Well they were delicious but I got a nasty taste in my mouth because they were marked "buy one get one free" on the packet BUT I only got one pack of 4 .I contacted their customer services who initially told me that to qualify I should have put 2 in my basket.I told them that there was no mention of the offer on their website and was unaware until it turned up in my delivery. They have now told me that it is NOT on promotion and was marked "buy one get one free" by their supplier-something that they do even if their is no current promotion at the time.Am I being fobbed off?Am I entitled to an extra pack?THANKS in advance for any advice given!!

No you are not entitled to another one. Had you been in the shop and only picked up one packet, you would not be entitled to go back and demand a free one.

If you ask them nicely, then it is quite likely they would send you a voucher for another one, or something but they do not have to do so.

It could also be that it is an in store offer, which they have no obligation to offer you online. No rights for another 4 burgers I'm afraid.

They offered a price, you accepted, you got what you asked for at the price you agreed. Now you know there are promotions elsewhere you can make an informed decision on where to buy in the future. If you did more research you may even be able to find that another brand sells the same things at a lower price under their own brand.

I agree its slightly annoying when it happens but at the same time I've had the opposite happen many times where I buy for one price and the item turns up with a pricetag on it at a higher amount than what I've paid. Ultimately swings and roundabouts.

    Why another post?

You asked this the other day on another thread. You got the same answer there.

Because they didn't like the answer, maybe someone will agree with them and tell them what they want to hear in tomorrows thread.
  • rustyboy 21 and bris I wanted to ask a specific question about "buy one get one free" online offers-hence my posting of a new topic in the Consumer Rights forum. The other posting was on someone elses thread and not specific to my question. If I knew the answer I would not bother to ask the question as unlike some others I do have a life and much better things to do with my time than type away at my keyboard. As I was somewhat miffed by Ocado's response I wanted to know for certain what their obligation was and posting a new thread in Consumer Rights seemed to me to be the best way of doing this.Having been a member of this forum for 5 years this coming September and during this time posting only 39 times I think the figures speak for themselves and clearly illustrates that I do not keep asking questions until I get a reply that agrees with my sentiments contrary to your opinion. Now that bap98189,SuperHan and InsideInsurance have all told me that Ocado have done nothing wrong and have no obligation to give me another pack free I have my answer-Big Thanks to the 3 of you!!

What on earth did you say to them to not get an immediate refund? I've used Ocado weekly for years and can count on one hand the issues I've had, but, as soon as I've had one I've politely messaged them and a refund has been credited within the hour.

And if you put an incomplete offer into your basket on Ocado, as you checkout you get a warning that the offer's incomplete and a chance to correct it.

As per the OP, there was no offer on the item in question so no prompt would have been given. The offer was on the packaging printed by the manufacturer.
