Yeah.... got fed up with intrusive LLs (turning up at the door randomly and thinking that's OK by saying "we saw your car so knew you were in"...) and fed up with intrusive agents and inspections .... and the decor. Bought a house this week, moving in next month :)

Congrats. I am hoping once I get past screening, I will never need to look back. I wish you all the best in your new place. We are all victims of our personal experiences. If I may use the word.

    Best wishes.

Yes, he can. There is no data protection issue between an employee and an employer, or an agent and his principal.
Any information that the agent receives, he does so on behalf of the landlord.

ICO says that tenant should be informed that date will be passed to landlord, but that's really a best practice for full information.

Thanks a lot! I don't know what ICO means but my question was really if there was any reason they would not state simple facts. :T

Very true. Nobody on this thread knows why the prospective tenants are selling up and nobody except for you said they were in financial distress.

Anyway, we're veering off topic. The OP, or any other landlord for that matter, can ask for any information they like and the tenant can choose whether or not to supply it. Even then there are no guarantees.

Financial challenges and prudence is a loooong way away from financial distress. I never said I was in financial distress. In my books, not having a salary but living debt free is not being in distress. It does not warrant all the negative assumptions and remarks and YES, WE ARE TOTALLY OFF TOPIC.

    Thanks.

Err, Bluebirdman said the OP was, As you say, neither you nor I know why they are having to sell their house. I assumed it was for financial reasons

At least we can agree on that !

By the Way - For the OP - ICO means Information Commissioners Office http://ico.org.uk/ The office that administers the Freedom of Information Act and the Data Protection Act

"Agent brought a couple, but did not even give me their names. They have now called to notify me that they want my house. All they have said is that they earn 3x the rent pa, wife works part-time for now and having 2nd baby in a few months, husband self-employed. They are having to sell own house."

    What's this then ?

You got the point Mart Vader. "They are HAVING to sell." Why? And it is cheaper to have a mortgage than pay £1200 in rent. So I only wanted some information to feel assured.

Anyway, I am grateful to everyone.

I was just pointing out that mart.vader had mis-read your original post. You seem helluva touchy about it though for someone who wants this kind of information from your tenants. Sauce for the goose and all.

I am not touchy about asking me for info. Only with regards to certain people jumping into wrong conclusions and snide remarks. Regardless, thanks.

Am I entitled to info about prospective tenants or not? Rather, I get all sorts including "how would I feel" , they won't want me as LL, ETC.

WELL, I have heard back and I was told THE TENANT now says they want to pay six months rent. I will go though the links and sites provided. Thanks.

Okay, thanks a lot. I knew it must be to do with the DPA. Noted.
